In-Person Meetups and Support Groups

We Are Family Adoption - provides local group meetings in London and surrounding areas, offering a range of family meet-ups, support groups, and social events.

Adoption UK offers various support groups run by volunteer coordinators across the UK, creating opportunities for adoptive families to connect and share experiences. Visit Adoption UK and check out all the areas they have meet ups.

The Dunbar Project - The Dunbar Project in the UK focuses on redefining adoption narratives and providing support specifically for adoptees, emphasising healing and empowerment. Founded by Shania-Sophia Dunbar Ives, a committed adoptee and advocate, the Project offers a range of services including workshops, consulting, and coaching tailored to the needs of adoptees. Their programs are designed to address the unique challenges faced by adoptees, particularly those from marginalised communities, through initiatives like the Summer of Healing and various identity-specific support groups. PACT's offers an online Children And Trauma Community Hub (CATCH) that provides learning opportunities and resources for adoptive families.

The Sunflower Network - The Sunflower Network was created in 2018 by Lou Mason, a child and young person counsellor and former TV producer. Her intention was to bring together an inclusive, diverse and extensive multi-disciplinary community of individuals and organisations supporting children, young people and families.

They offer innovative adoption approaches, such as LGBTQ+ adoption and early permanence fostering, to meet the diverse needs of children awaiting adoption. Family Adoption Links offers support for educational needs through resources and training tailored for adopted children’s unique challenges.

Hadley Centre for Adoption & Foster Care Studies- Promotes best practice by linking research, practice and training in order to provide children whose own parents are not able to care for them consistently or predictably with stability.

Lancaster University is engaged in adoption research through its Department of Educational Research. This research primarily focuses on improving outcomes for adoptive families and adoptees by examining various educational, social, and psychological aspects of adoption.
